 First produced as part of “The Matisse Plays” by the The Milk Can Theatre Company in February 2005, directed by Lauren Reinhard at the Michael Weller Theatre, New York City.
Each short play in this evening was inspired by a painting of Henri Matisse, in my case, La Leçon de Musique. Fay is married to a man who’s the dictator of a former Soviet Socialist Republic, who she does not love. She has fallen passionately in love with her stepson John. Fay confides in her Nurse, who tries to dissuade her from doing anything rash. By the end of the play, the Nurse has agreed to reveal Fay’s secret to John.
