Let Nothing You Dismay

Let Nothing You Dismay is composed of seven thematically related one-acts that take a sometimes poignant, humorous and macabre look at how America’s ultimate holiday doesn’t always meet our expectations for family togetherness, religious fulfillment and universal brotherhood. Let Nothing You Dismay explores a second honeymoon run aground on a reef of grief (“Bruce: A Porthole View”), a family dispute played out over a pet (“Dog”), the theft of a religious statue (“Pete’s Christmas Story”), sibling rivalry run amok in the Rust Belt (“Monica the Church Lady”), disappointment and Disney World (“Dan”), a kind-hearted soup kitchen volunteer, who has a unique way of easing pain and suffering (“Julie”), and a former actress who is gunning for a duck (“Stacey”).

An earlier version of this play (“Crèche Scenes”) was in the Play Lab at the Eleventh Annual (Edward Albee) Last Frontier Theatre Festival in Valdez Alaska in 2003. A showcase produced by Apuanya Productions, and directed by M.L. Kinney was at The Producer's Club in 1998.
